The Muezzi Technique

A holistic learning process.

The Muezzi Technique is a short, warm conscious hypnosis approach matured over 45+ years of clinical practice. The clinician and the client are the two sides of the process — and the two subjects of the learning.

Three steps of learning

Inform → Practice → Repeat

Information

— the leaven

The client understands what they will experience; hypnosis is felt to be a learnable skill, not something mystical.

Practice

— the process

The gentle steps of the technique are walked through together, at the client's own pace.

Repetition

— anchoring

Through self-hypnosis the client uses what they learned in daily life on their own.

Five phases

Anatomy of a session

10–20 minutes total

The same five phases are rewritten for each client. Words are chosen to fit the client's feelings, thoughts and understanding.

01
Phase 011–3 min

Induction

Through voice and gaze, mind and body are gently relaxed. The client settles into a calm breathing rhythm.

02
Phase 023–5 min

Illumination

The cause-and-effect of the concern is shared in motivating sentences fitted to the client's understanding.

03
Phase 032–4 min

Suggestion

Warm, reassuring paternal suggestions describe the path to taking control of the symptoms.

04
Phase 042–3 min

Confirmation

While in hypnosis the client articulates the suggestions of recovery in their own words.

05
Phase 053–5 min

Self-Hypnosis

A small trigger gesture is learned for when symptoms return; the client carries the technique with them.

The language of suggestion

A word works two ways.

In hypnosis every word lands both in the dictionary and in the inner world. The effect arises at their intersection.

HEAVY
Literal

A burden hard to lift

Metaphorical

A heavy crisis, a heavy fatigue — the word amplifies the feeling.

DEEP
Literal

The depth of a well or a lake

Metaphorical

Deep breath, deep sleep, deep peace — the word invites inward.

TO STICK
Literal

Two surfaces clinging together

Metaphorical

To stick to an idea, to a habit — the word reminds.

TO MERGE
Literal

Two materials becoming one body

Metaphorical

Merging with family, with life — the word bonds.

Sample suggestion words

A few words from the clinic.

Words at every phase are carefully chosen — to remind the client of an identity that is rightfully theirs, of a calm body, of a warm return.

Induction

Spoken while body and mind soften

  • Breathe gently
  • Let yourself go
  • Loosen
  • Loving life
  • Seeing in colour
  • Lifting up
  • Open
  • At ease
  • In peace

Paternal Suggestion

The clinician's warm, reassuring sentences

  • You are clever
  • You are wise
  • You are modern
  • You are strong
  • You are productive
  • You are valuable
  • You are educated
  • You are experienced
  • Healthier
  • More joyful
  • More at ease

Confirmation

What the client affirms in their own voice

  • Loving life
  • Seeing in colour
  • At peace with yourself
  • I have reached peace
  • I have found strength
  • I have found healing
  • I have reached belief
  • I am at peace with myself

Awakening

The closing: a healthy return to daily life

  • Healthy
  • At ease
  • Open
  • Peaceful
Awakening — the closing

“I leave you in your own care.”

The closing line of the Muezzi Technique. The client returns to daily life with their own healthy voice; the end of the technique is a beginning.

Original Turkish: “Seni sana emanet ediyorum.”
